The true nature of judgment is the ability to take a complex situation and simplify it by picking out the truth or pointing out the most important information to pay attention to. What has happened is this natural skill has been misused and twisted into a weapon used to criticize and condemn ourselves and others. The highest form of judgment is discernment, the mature and more evolved aspect of judgment. Discernment recognizes the same skill that can pick out someone’s flaws can also see their gifts and strengths. The same ability to tear someone down or pick them apart can be repurposed to support them and lift them higher. Where in your life, whether in thoughts, words, or deeds, could you consciously lift someone up and “pick out” what is great about them? Remember, it is always easier to pick something apart or tear someone down, including yourself. Destruction is always far easier than construction. The question is: Are you here to do what is easy, or are you here to make the world a better place?
