This is an interesting post. Meditation comes in several “flavors” and those are broken down into smaller bite sized practices. Focused Attention Meditation, Open Monitoring Meditation are two of these flavors. I meditate to achieve Effortless Presence, which I believe no matter where you start that is the ultimate goal of meditation .

Meditation will not MAKE you happy, rather it helps set up the mental states that allow happiness to arise .
