If you are in a situation where you find that others are operating out of fear, defensiveness, ego, and short-term gain, then remind yourself that you do not have to follow them. Bring your attention to your breathing is a way to carve out a quiet moment for yourself amid any external pressure. The movement in your lungs puts the focus back around your heart center. Awareness of the quality of your breathing, how slow, how steady gives you a chance to choose calmness as your own inner state.
Such moments are good for reminding you that like lotus blossom that blooms above muddy waters, you can thrive amid negativity and “lower” energy if you know how to shake these off. Let go of your need to control what is happening outside of you. You have control over your own state of mind.
